- A Latest Supercar By Lexus: Lexus LFA
Lexus has for the first time, launched two seat ultimate sports car, which is called Lexus LFA. Yet Lexus has only produced the three concept models in which, first one had been shown at the North American International Auto Show in 2005, second LF-A shown 2007, and third one is a roadster model LF-A in 2008. Now Lexus has officially launched its production model LFA in October 2009 at Tokyo Motor Show.
The specifications of the new rear-drive Lexus supercar are: a 4.8-liter V10 with 560 ps (552 bhp), 354 lb-ft torque, a zingy 9,000 rpm redline, six-speed sequential gearbox, 0-62 mph in 3.7 seconds, and a top speed of 202 mph. The impressive specification with the pictorial first looks of the car is not doing much to satiate the awaiting crowd of people .
One unique feature is the driver centeredness of the supercar, in which the driving seat is positioned near the LFA centre of gravity . The driver placement is done like this to provide maximum car-to-driver feedback, especially under sport or high G-force driving conditions . LFA also features some elements of a true luxury car, including comprehensive equipment levels that include dual-zone climate control and Hard Disc Drive satellite navigation systems .
When Lexus LFA is compared with Japanese supercar, the Nissan GT-R, the Lexus clearly wins the game of a better power to weight ratio at just 3,263 pounds . But, the matter of cost comes in. The Japanese supercar, Nissan GT-R, is considered a good performance bargain, while the same cannot be said about Lexus LFA. The LFA is going to be exclusive with just 500-units worldwide, but it sure will come with a price tag.
The clean, simple and sleek exterior styling of LFA also reflects both the L-finesse approach to orderly design and the mechanical wholesomeness that lies beneath its compound skin . Its numerous air-intakes and aerodynamic features also fulfil a practical role first and an aesthetic role second .
The gearbox is a sequential semi-automatic. The control paddles are in the steering and the gears shift intently. The gearbox is a rear axle setup which helps maintain the car’s weight distribution and low center of gravity. Once you press the start button and the engine roars into life you will have to get used to the sensitive throttle. Press it and the car will roar onto the road like a bat out of hell.
The buyers of LFA will be granted the privilege of choosing between 3 different configurations, 30 exterior colours, six brake calliper colours and 12 interior colours . The UK launch price for the LFA is 368,000 (approximately 336,000).
Interior of Lexus LFA is a combination of leather, carbon fibre, metallic surfaces, and Alcantara. The speedometer of LFA features a changeable colour of background, side-appearing submenus, and size-changing numbers. There is a new feature of seat belt airbag design for driver, and passenger. Audio system of LFA is equipped with 12-speaker Mark Levinson sound system.
