Why Hybrid Cars?

The hybrid cars are some of the most affordable and innovative inventions of the age. They offer a superb driving experience. From driving efficiency to the general outlook, the car has proven to be the best of all automobiles. Hybrid cars possess many remarkable features that make them one of the most practical choices for the consumers.

Hybrid cars offer drivers an innovative, efficient, and an affordable way of transport. After years of development, gasoline electric hybrid cars have become a practical choice for the average consumer. The concept of a hybrid powered transport vehicle is not at all new. Remember the “moped”?- it had a small petrol engine and as an alternate used the pedal power of the rider.

Nowadays, a modern hybrid car features a small fuel efficient petrol engine combined with an electric motor that provides assistance to the engine when accelerating. The electric motor is powered by a bank of batteries that constantly recharge as you drive. The electric motor is also used as a charger for the batteries when braking. This is called regenerative braking and I will explain a little more on this later.

People are aware of global warming, increase in pollution, depleting fossil fuel resources and rising cost of fuel. A number of celebrities and politicians have started driving hybrid cars to show they care about the environment.

Hybrid cars also gain efficiency from smaller and more efficient petrol engines. Regenerative braking as mentioned earlier is the process where the electric motor that drives the hybrid can also slow the car. In this mode, the electric motor acts as a recharging generator and charges the batteries while the car is slowing down.

The automatic shut off system means that when the car runs at constant speed or is static with the running engine, the gasoline engine automatically shuts off. Actually the engine switches to the electric motor. During the course, the car switches to the gasoline engine whenever you need to accelerate the car. This strategy of power saving is important when the cars stops at the traffic signals or is stuck in the traffic jams.

Some people think that hybrid cars are unsafe because they carry high voltage batteries and in an accident people can get electrocuted. This is absolutely wrong as the Toyota Prius has got a five star safety rating from Euro NCAP. Car makers have ensured that the hybrid cars they make are safe. No car maker wants to get sued for making unsafe cars.

The other distinguishing feature of the car is its efficiency of addressing the environmental concerns. It has proved to be the environmental friendly car. As hybrid cars consume less fuel, low level of pollutants are emitted. The adoption of the hybrid car technology is a radical step to control the big environmental issues such as global warming. Moreover, the hybrid cars are best due to the potential tax saving offered by the government. It is called clean-fuel tax deduction. Thus, the above mentioned features reveal the significance and importance of hybrid cars.
