Who Will Produce Electricity For Electric Cars? Asks ETA
In a recent report that is going to shock many people, the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) has stated that the electric cars are not the environmental panacea that they are often made out to be. While the ETA has not discounted the electric cars completely, the report calls for a need to study the impact of electric cars on environment.
If everyone started driving electric cars tomorrow, the amount of additional electricity required would increase rather than decrease pollution, the ETA claims. What this implies is that you will need more electricity to be generated and more raw materials will be needed to do so.
The ETA states that the electric cars do not automatically cut CO2 pollution, and the process of meeting increased demand of electricity to run electric cars is still undefined. This makes it very difficult to predict the impact of increased electricity generation for meeting electric cars’ needs and we need to study and analyze the problem in totality rather than treating it in isolation. Global vehicular pollution is a threat for the entire globe and it is significant that any alternative fuel has to address the problem of environmental hazard before being effectively used as a commercial alternative to the existing fossil fuels.
ETA Director Andrew Davies explains: “Whilst the report is not intended to dampen enthusiasm for electric vehicles, their introduction should not be viewed as a panacea. Significant changes to the way we produce and tax power are needed before we will reap any benefits.”
While it is simple and easy to tout electric cars as the solution to day to day problems being faced in terms of increased vehicular pollution, we need to step aside and think of the following 3 questions: 1. Who produces electricity for electric cars? 2. What process or raw materials are used for creating electricity? 3. What is the impact of increased consumption of electricity on the green environment? It may be stupid to give a bling clearance to electric cars as being the only possible and commercially viable alternative to fossil fuels. At the same time, there is no need to discount the electric cars. They hold a significant promise and if we are able to think, and come up with strategy to optimize the overall requirements we will be able to do good for the environment and people.
For now, a hybrid car seems as a likely option to control pollution and help the green environment.
Fleet Managers and Business owners can use fuel cards to control fuel efficiently. With the presence of multiple fuel suppliers, gettting the right fuel card is not difficult at all.
