Does Your Son Suffer From Severe Stomach Pains Quite A Lot?

Stomachaches have long been the cause of every child’s misery. Because these abdominal pains may have come about in various ways, it’s hard to really know what the triggers are. It may be an infection, or it could even be an allergic reaction caused by insect bites.

There is more than one culprit of tummy aches – in fact several. Finding the reason for acute stomachaches is not an easy task and requires the experience of a medical professional in order to properly diagnose the illness. The leading cause for stomach-related pains are viruses.

They way you can differentiate between illnesses caused by viruses and the ones that stem from bacteria is usually the length of infection. With viral-based infections, it doesn’t last very long and is over before you know it. Bacteria related symptoms can last up to 7 days, depending on it’s severity. The symptoms are usually a mild fever, dehydration (purging of solids and liquids) and of course acute abdominal pains. Normally with viruses, there is nothing much you can do except have your kid drink lots of water and wait for symptoms to wear off.

Allergic reactions can also produce the effects akin to the previously mentioned. These reactions may be from the bite of an insect or lactose intolerance. It usually starts with stomach cramps, vomiting and dryness of the mouth.

These allergies can be quite dangerous depending on how the child reacts to it but in general, most of the side effects only last a day as long as no further diary food is consumed.

Of all the different types of stomach pains, appendicitis would have to be the worst of all. The pain can be excruciating and appendicitis is more common amongst children than adults. Appendicitis may require surgery to get the appendix removed if the pain persists.

It may not be easy for you to spot these stomach related illnesses in your own kids so you will need to be on the lookout for signs that something is not right. It may come in the form of your kids not eating much or curling up in bed clenching their stomachs. The first protocol would be to get your child to the clinic just to be safe.

As a parent, there is only so much you can do to protect your child’s health. Educating your children on hygiene and cleanliness is vital. When these illnesses occur there is nothing much you can do (besides visiting the doctor) except to comfort your child and make sure he or she gets plenty of rest.
